Savage q2ctf New Year 2000 Cup - Round One

Well, here it was. The tournament that had had so much speculation regarding it. Speculation which seemed to centre around "No Techs!" and "Crap Map For The Final!" But hey, it was Sunday afternoon, who had anything better to do? Well, actually.... never mind :) With that, 28 clans from all over the Savage Q2CTF leagues lined up to give battle. These teams included current Division 1 champs Happychaps, Division 2 faves The Fallen, Division 6 supremos Get Even Not Xterminated, and even the Savage Academy were represented in the form of the rather amusingly titled clan Guns n' Arses. So, the clans shook hands, exchanged afternoon pleasantries and then prepared to blow each other up into little bits. It was 4pm, Sunday the 2nd of January, 2000AD, and it was time for round one:

Round 1 - Q2CTF5 - 16:00

CLAN KRUSTY vs SPOOKS
This battle saw the fairly evenly matched division 2 clans CK and SPKs take each other on, on Capture Showdown. And they did prove to be very evenly matched, keeping up with each other almost cap for cap. SPKs with new signings DIABOLIC and blokey fresh from the now folded (for Q2 anyway) UNR. However, it was the constant attacks that CK threw at the SPKs Flag defender [SPKs]Xanetia that won it. SPKs, although making good caps themselves just couldn't quite keep up. Final score was 6 - 4 to the very impressive CK.

AFTERSHOCK vs CLAN GREIVOUS ANGEL
CGA currently having a few problems in Division 4, and are second from bottom. AFT however seem to have acclimatised very well to division 3 life, with impressive wins over TJD and APO in the last 2 weeks. This gap between the teams showed as AFT commanded the game pretty much throughout. Their attackers, [AFT]Slip, [AFT]Towser and [AFT]Rum really gave the CGA defence more than they could handle, Slip taking a hat-trick, whilst the AFT back line of [AFT]Kaneda, [AFT]oUtKast and [AFT]Pain held firm throughout. Final score 7 - 0 to those AFT loonies.

GET EVEN NOT XTERMINATED vs BLOODED YAUTJA CLAN

[Genx]Ebola!! With what turned
out to be the match winner.

The battle that many said should have been the final. The Superb bYc versus that infamous Division-6-clan-who-should-be-in-division-1. And it was a match that would have been worthy of the final. Two of the best clans in the country, locked in mortal combat for 20 minutes of pure entertainment Remember also that bYc were out for revenge for their oh so close defeat at the hands of genx in the Final of FlagFrag 99. SoulReaver's clan of mainly European talent caused the bYc defence all manner of troubles, but, by the same token, bYc-Roc and his attacking partners gave Genx something to think about. The score really did go back and forth, with the clans never more than a cap apart. With 5 minutes to go it was 3 - 3. The atmosphere was tense in #scores, let alone the flippin' server! And then [genx]Ebola!! made a superb solo effort, to launch genx into the lead. It looked all over for bYc. Even if they equalised they would lose on frags. However, to their great credit they fought on, and it was bYc-Roc yet again who pulled the teams back together, with 30 seconds remaining. A superb match, sad it had to be in the first round. Genx go through to the next round, well played all.

SUICIDE SQUAD vs PORNSTARS
A default to SS.

UK LAVA DIVERS vs HONOUR GUARDZ
Despite currently having real trouble in Division 1 at the moment, Hg dismissed the UKLD fairly easily. However, in the first 5 minutes, it looked as if the Division 5 clan was keeping up quite well, keeping the Hg caps down to a minimum. However, this couldn't last, and the Hg chaps pummelled the Lava Divers. But, to their great credit UKLD fought on under their leader Denyerec, and even pulled a cap back. But the experienced Hg proved too much. 15 - 1 a convincing win for Hg.

YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE vs WE KIKK BUTT
WkB having a bad time of it at the moment, while YWN are another of a crop of very promising new clans who are rising through the ranks of Savage. This fact really showed as WkB were pretty much swept aside. Especially impressive here was =YWN=Cyberdog, who was capping like a madman. An excellent player, and he would be one to watch for the rest of the tournament. YWN sailed through fairly well, despite giving away a couple of late caps. 11 - 3 to clan YWN.

BIG BASTARD CLAN vs COVERT OPERATIONS
"Errrr, mini match anyone? Jumpers for goalposts, muddy knees, run home in time for beans on toast for tea". Ahem, excuse me. Well, Co having problems with players at the moment and could only manage three players. However, BBC being the nice chaps that they are agreed to play them with the same number of players. They weren't going to let stop them though. 20 minutes later, [BBC]Genesis and [BBC]Killemall had amassed 20 caps between them, with 1 from [BBC]Faxx. Well, if this was what BBC could do with half a team we were looking forward to seeing six of the buggers in action! 21 - 0, BBC looking.... well, bloody dangerous.

FRENCH CTF CLAN vs GUNS n' ARSES
The fairly inexperienced GnA really weren't ready for the onslaught that came from CTFr. 20 minutes of devastating attacks later, the smoke cleared and the damage caused by [CTFr]Veronwe, [CTFr]Vipere1 and [CTFr]Kurtt as they went on a cap rampage, became apparent. 31 - 0 to CTFr. Erm... ouch.

HAPPYCHAPS vs LETHAL DOSE 50
Happychaps, division 1 leaders and last season's champs were obviously firm favourites here against the improving LD50. Also they had new signing Luke, from UNR playing his first ever HC match. However it wasn't all that simple. Clan leader HC_Nut led by example here, sticking away 2 early caps. However, HC_Pip on his typically choppy conn overflowed :( and LD50 managed to pull one, and then two caps back. However, NuTz pulled his clan together, despite being down to 5 for the last seven or eight minutes, to end the game 5 - 3. But, respect to LD50 who gave a good account of themselves against some of the best players the league has to offer.

QUAKE IMPERIAL DESCENDENTS vs REVENGE
Sadly, CMM bot was unable to cover this game as one of the player's name's caused the programme problems. However Rv took the match 6 - 2

ROK vs THE ANGRY ANGELS
TAA managed to stay in touch with Division 3 faves ROK, [TAA]Maumau neutralising [ROK]Holmes's early cap. However, ROK soon started pulling away as more and more caps came from Holmes and his attacking partners. At the halfway mark it was 6 - 1. The caps kept coming and it ended 10 - 1.

THE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT vs UK SPECIAL GUARD
An easy win here for [TJD]Rico's division 3 boys, as they stuck away cap after cap against Camazotz and co. Special mention to [TJD]Tamiltyger who got 7 caps and to [TJD]Wayfarer who managed 5. Also of special note was the fact that it was in this match that we got the first hint of a bug on CMM:

CMMBOT3: _7[TJD]Rico Caps for TJD

hehehe ;)
A good win for TJD 17 - 0.

End of Round 1

So, the halftime oranges were handed around. The losers were given a pat on the back and railgun slug up the bum, while the winners waited with baited breath in #savage to hear the round 2 draw from Slave.
